Brand customisation deep dive — logo, colour, font, persona, welcome message

Make the chatbot look and sound like an extension of your business, not a generic widget. The full set of brand customisation levers and what each one actually changes.

A default chatbot looks like every other default chatbot. Generic blue, generic 'Hi! How can I help?' opener, no name. Customers register it as a thing the website does, not as your business reaching out. The conversion difference between branded and un-branded chatbots is consistent across the trades we've measured: 18-25% more bookings just from making the chat look like it belongs to your van.

1

Upload your logo

In /admin/chatbot → Brand → Logo, upload a PNG or SVG. 512x512px is plenty. Square format works best; the widget masks it to a circle. If you only have a long-format logo (text + icon side-by-side), upload just the icon part as a separate brand icon.

Level 2 — Primary colour

Your primary colour is the dominant brand colour the chatbot uses — the launcher button, the message bubble background, the call-to-action highlights. Match it to your van wrap, your website, or your business card.

2

Set primary colour

Brand → Primary colour. Type a hex code (e.g. #1E40AF) or use the picker. Voxinly auto-derives a darker shade for hover states and a lighter shade for backgrounds — you don't need to specify those.

Level 3 — Font

By default Voxinly inherits your site's font (so a Wix site in Open Sans gives a chatbot in Open Sans). Override at Brand → Font if you want something specific. Most trades stick with site default; the inheritance feels natural.

Level 4 — Persona name

Give the chatbot a name. Sally, Dave, Tom, Jenny — anything that feels like a real person who works at your firm. Avoid 'Bot', 'Assistant', 'AI' or 'Help' — they break the illusion and remind customers they're not talking to a person.

3

Set persona name

Brand → Persona → Name. Pick a name you'd be happy hearing customers refer to ('I had a chat with Sally on the website'). Some firms use a real apprentice's name; some pick a different name. Either works.

Level 5 — Tone of voice

Tone settings: 'Casual British trade' (default), 'Formal professional', 'Cheerful family-firm', 'Direct & efficient'. Pick the one that matches how you actually speak to customers. If you're a London plumber who'd say 'alright mate, what's up?', set casual. If you're a corporate gas contractor, set formal.

Level 6 — Welcome message

4

Customise the opening line

Brand → Welcome message. Replace the default with something specific to your firm. Examples: 'Hi, I'm Sally from McGrath Plumbing — what can I help with today?' or 'Morning! I'm Dave's apprentice — what's the job?'.

Specific welcomes convert significantly better than generic ones. We A/B-tested 'Hi, how can I help?' against 'Hi, I'm Sally from McGrath Plumbing — what's the job?' and the named version converted 23% better. Real names + real firms read as real.

Level 7 — Launcher style

Choose between a circle launcher (just the icon), a pill launcher (icon + 'Chat to us'), or an extended launcher with a teaser ('Got a quick question? Chat to Sally'). Pill and extended convert better but take more space. Test on mobile — extended launchers can crowd small screens.

Level 8 — Position

Bottom-right is the convention and converts best on most sites. Bottom-left is fine if your site has a sticky CTA already in the bottom-right. Avoid top placements — they look unusual and lose conversions.

Putting it all together — a coherent brand

A McGrath Plumbing chatbot might look like: blue logo (their van colour), bottom-right pill launcher saying 'Chat to Sally', circle icon with their plumber-with-spanner logo, Inter font (inherited from their Wix site), 'Casual British trade' tone, welcome line 'Alright! Sally here — McGrath Plumbing's website assistant. What's the job?'. That's a chatbot a customer reads as 'real small firm' inside the first half-second.

FAQ

Can I change the brand mid-day for different campaigns?

Yes on Pro — schedule brand variants by URL, date or season. Useful for 'Winter boiler service' campaigns with a themed welcome and accent colour.

How long does customisation take to apply?

Instantly. Save the settings and the next page-refresh on your site shows the updated chatbot. No cache wait.

Should I use a real photo of my team as the persona avatar?

If you have a friendly head-and-shoulders shot, yes — converts measurably better than logo or initials. Make sure the person is okay with being the face of every chat.

What if my brand colour fails accessibility?

Voxinly auto-darkens for text contrast where needed, preserving your colour for the launcher and large elements. The accessibility warning will explain which combinations were adjusted.
